Miss Redwood City/Miss San Mateo County
Allison Wood recently retired from a 15 year stint as a high school Spanish teacher having paid for her entire teaching credential with scholarship funds earned when she was Miss Clovis and Miss Redwood City. She started a new career as a Clinical Research Associate at a biotechnology company working on clinical trials in oncology. Allison has her Masters in Spanish from UC Santa Barbara, Masters in Public Health from the University of San Francisco and her certificate in Clinical Research Conduct and Management from UC Berkeley. In addition to serving as the Executive Director of the Miss Redwood City/San Mateo County Scholarship Program, she volunteers as a Spanish Speaking Wish Grantor for the Make a Wish Foundation and sits on the alumni board for the School of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of San Francisco.
Bobbie lynne ward
Singer & Vocal instructor
Bobbie Lynne Hosfeldt-Ward started singing at age three. She performed her very first solo on KNTV Channel 11 in San Jose. Her performance of "Edelweiss" in her middle school spring concert drew attention and she began to sing with the gospel choir, commencing formal voice lessons at the age of fourteen.
Bobbie was crowned California Miss in 1977 and Miss Santa Clara County in 1981. She opened for headlining artists at the Santa Clara County Fair and was spotted by an agent. She trained under acclaimed voice instructors Judy Davis who taught Barbara Streisand and Seth Riggs, teacher to Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and Natalie Cole. Bobbie's training allows her to sing everything from opera, light opera, pop, country, and jazz.
Bobbie Ward has opened for Bob Hope, Lee Greenwood, and Merle Haggard. She sang for President Ronald Reagan and was asked to be a permanent cast member on The Lawrence Welk Show. Ward has recorded two albums, a country album recorded in Nashville and a compilation of her favorite genres of music: on which she wrote lyrics and music.
Bobbie is married to singer and actor Geoffrey Ward. They have two children; both of whom are talented singers and actors.
She has been teaching voice for twenty years and considers seeing her students perform one of her greatest joys in life.
Miss california 2012
Leah Cecil, Miss California 2012, has been involved with the Miss America Organization since 2004 when she began as a teen contestant. Her first title was Miss Anaheim’s Outstanding Teen 2007 and she earned 2nd Runner-up at Miss California’s Outstanding Teen that same year. Her other titles include Miss Garden Grove 2011, and Miss Southern California 2012. As Miss California 2012, Leah competed at Miss America and traveled the country and the world as an Ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network and the American Pistachio Growers. Leah is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Leah has performed in South Korea and Ensenada as a guest harpist and is found playing the harp in numerous commercials. Aside from her musical career, Leah holds the position of Marketing Manager at Circle Porsche & Circle Audi in Long Beach, CA. If you need or want a new luxury car, Circle is the place to shop! Leah happily resides in Huntington Beach with her cat, Chloe.
Founding member, degrees of skill
Nancy happily resides with her husband Don, two dogs and a cat, on a long held family property in Arroyo Grande. They moved there after Nancy, a former RN, retired in 2003 from her positions of Director of Women's Health for two Los Angeles hospitals. Since retirement, Nancy has been heartily involved in P.E.O. sisterhood, and her passion for raising money to help students afford the costs of education. She was the inspiration for and primary organizer of the San Luis Obispo P.E.O. Wine Tasting & Auction, which to date, has raised over $65,000 in educational scholarships benefitting SLO women. Furthermore, Nancy is a founding member of Degrees of Skill, a California non-profit which raises scholarship funds for students attending colleges and universities, with a large emphasis on students wishing to attend trade schools.
Hobbies and interests include numerous business projects involving antiques and vintage pieces, and currently, Nancy and her husband enjoy property investment and development in the surrounding areas. They also love to cook, entertain and travel. Nancy looks forward to lending her support to the Miss San Luis Obispo County Scholarship Association.
COMMANDING OFFICER, CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL
Captain Mike Bueno began his career with the California Highway Patrol in 1994 and has served in multiple assignments throughout the State. Captain Bueno was promoted to his current rank in January 2015 and has been assigned as the commander of the CHP-San Luis Obispo Area. He is responsible for achieving the mission of the CHP of delivering the highest level of safety, service and security to the public by commanding 65 uniformed and non-uniformed employees and providing command oversight of CHP operations for the majority of San Luis Obispo County and dispatch / 911 communication operations for San Luis Obispo County and the majority of Santa Barbara County. Captain Bueno is also a commander for the CHP-Coastal Division Special Response Team and is a certified academy instructor.
Captain Bueno has been married for 23 years and has a daughter, who will graduate high school this year. He served in the United States Marine Corps for five years. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of La Verne and is currently completing his Master’s Degree through the University of San Diego. He is also a graduate of the California POST Law Enforcement Command College.
michaela h.b. wise
Michaela H. B. Wise has been a member of the San Luis Obispo community since 2006. Like many residents, Michaela came to SLO to attend Cal Poly and fell in love with its beauty and charm. Michaela is an avid fan of dance and choreography. She trained in ballet for 10 years in San Diego and participated in several national competitions. She is a supporter of a variety of different women’s groups and is actively involved in the SLO Chapter of the California Women for Agriculture.
Michaela currently works for Umpqua Bank in Templeton where she is also an active member of the community. Michaela and her husband currently live in Los Osos. Together they enjoy everything the Central Coast has to offer including great restaurants, the outdoors, and the local arts. Some of Michaela’s favorite activities are hiking, cycling, and kayaking.
